About
Ludodata is a specialist publication that investigates the video game industry, analyses its companies and its games, and organises knowledge about video games from official documents, data and academic research.
Why it exists
Games coverage is abundant in news and scarce in verification. The same information circulates between outlets without anyone returning to the source document. Financial reports from game companies are public and almost never analysed with accounting rigour. Sustainability reports are reproduced as if they were conclusions, rather than what they are: what a company chose to disclose about itself.
Ludodata does not compete on speed. A story published at ten in the morning by another outlet may be taken up here at two in the afternoon, with the documents, the figures, the history and the context that the story lacked.
What the site does
- Analyses financial statements and reports from game companies
- Examines what those companies disclose on sustainability and governance
- Documents how games are made, with what technology and by whom
- Gathers knowledge on the history, science, society, law and taxation of video games
How each of these is sourced is described on theMethodology page.
